What are the consequences and risks of switching?

The quality of the sound and phone connections is the same as with the big three companies. Actually, ??? rents lines from them. Isn't it amazing? They rent lines from the big companies and still undercut them considerably?.

Your old phone company might get nervous if you were a good customer that ran up high phone bills and offer you all kinds of frills. I got flooded with calls from MCI. Finally, they offered me 50% off their regular rates for half a year. This was slightly cheaper than my new company's rates for the countries I call, Brazil and Germany. So I switched one of my lines back to them. When the half year was over, I inquired about the rates and immediately stopped using MCI, because even with 20% or 30% friend and family discounts their rates were considerably above that other company's rates.

If you are (unnecessarily)suspicious and nervous you can open a secondary account with your old phone company as a backup.

Who is the person trying to sell you this stuff?

I am actually a Ph.D. student in psychology, and also have a M. Sc. in Computer science, I just do this a side occupation. I signed up for NTC as my long distance carrier a year ago for myself. I was surprised that the" big three" bombard us with advertising about one cent savings here or there, or about 30% off some inflated prices, while we can actually get much lower rates. But this is unknown to almost everyone, because it is not advertised (so you do not need to pay the expensive ad campaigns with your hard earned phone bill money).

I do a lot of international phone calls to Brazil and to Germany, due to business and family connections. So I always compared the rates of the big companies: AT&T, Sprint, and MCI. I thought I knew everything and had the best program. So, when I heard about NTC, I was very surprised and also quite skeptical. I had MCI's friends and family as the best deal for my purposes. So I was really surprised when I found out that NTC was considerably cheaper.

I am not the typical sales person who sells refrigerators to Eskimos. I only sell this because I am convinced this is 20-40% cheaper than the big phone companies.
